EROTICA AND MY DAUGHTER

My daughter writes erotica and I am asked how I feel, as her beleaguered mother, about that?

I am Kat Holmes' critique partner...so I get to read her work long before anyone else.

I only have two major observations to make about Kat's writing...she knows how to make your temperature rise, and for the most part, I am awed by her abilities.

That doesn't mean I don't have moments when reading her work makes me want to bury my head, shutter my eyes and try to utilize my imaginary

fire engine inside my head to douse some of the images her words create.

I have always been accused of being a far too liberal parent. I didn't ban Kat from reading what others labeled "ADULT" fiction when she was barely more than a Tween.

Some accused me of corrupting her, but if I did, she's hiding it well.

When I was a girl, my parents had these super x-rated cartoon books that they hid away, not very creatively, and of course, that made my brothers and me determined to see what the hoopla was all about. Let me just say

Betty Boop was never the same for me after that.

However, had the folks not been sheepish and yes, embarrassed by these comic books, they would not have stirred us kids to sneak them out and have a gander.

By allowing Kat to read at her ever increasing level of comprehension I took the TABOO from these books.

Would I have allowed her to read

Glenn Kleier? Of course! His books stir up firestorms, but mostly for the same reason Dan Brown does with The DaVinci Code. Glenn Kleier steps into the realm of controversy steeped in doctrine.

If I did not prevent Kat from reading adult erotica, why would I prevent her from reading the likes of Glenn Kleier?

Kat tells some brilliant stories. Passion is a part of those stories, but passion is a part of life.

She has a new series coming out on April 1st, The Artica Lights Series, called

FROZEN.

Awni is the queen of Artica,

a land of constant winter. Her skin is so cold, anyone who touches it dies. All around her she witnesses passion...Is she doomed to never know love and passion?

So in conclusion, I LOVE my daughter's ability to weave erotica and love...for without both, you have nothing but pornography...and porn is ten-degrees of BORING!
